The regular commercial production of ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd (OMPL) at Mangalore will begin from October 1.
Jointly promoted by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), this aromatics complex of OMPL produces paraxylene and benzene. (Paraxylene is used in the production of polyester fibres and PET bottles. Benzene is used as an intermediate to make products such as styrene, polystyrene, phenol and nylon.)
Sources in the company told Business Line that OMPL, which did trial production during July-August period, exported three consignments to destinations such as Indonesia and Thailand.
However, the regular commercial production of OMPL will begin from October 1, they said.
Terming the products of OMPL as high-purity products, sources said the plant did some fine-tuning after the trial production.
