Sona Group, one of India’s oldest auto parts suppliers, will soon start a training institute for skills development for the manufacturing industry.
Located in Gurgaon, Sona Skill Development Institute is expected to launch in September or early October.
It will offer month-long courses to 4,000 people over the next three years. It will also train around 1,000 workers from Sona Group companies and other companies that may want to send their employees for short courses.
“This will be part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. We will train students passing out of high school and ITIs in software skills and problem-solving techniques. This would help them get better job opportunities,” Surinder Kapur, Sona Group Chairman, told Business Line .
The company will invest Rs 6 crore initially, and Rs 3 crore will be spent every year.
“We have to give two per cent of our profits every year towards CSR (as per Government norms),” said Kapur.
