The Tea Board is considering incorporating into the on-going pan-India e-auction platform, speciality teas including Nilgiris Winter orthodox premium teas, green tea variants and multiple-brewing varieties.
“In the earlier auction systems, CTC and orthodox black teas occupied the catalogues. In the recently introduced pan-India e-auction portal, our objective is to offer diversified products. Already, there is focus on Darjeeling tea. The Nilgiris winter speciality can also be dovetailed like this”, Tea Board Executive Director C Paulrasu told Business Line here on Thursday night.
“We are also intensifying promotion of South Indian teas. A promotion office will be established soon for this purpose. I have asked tea producers to conduct professional tea tasting sessions as part of this promotion measure,” he said. Earlier, in his chief guest address at the 125th Annual General Meeting of the Nilgiri Planters’ Association, he asked planters to avail of the increased subsidy for irrigation and create water harvesting infrastructure to overcome the adversity of ‘climate change’.
