The domestic airlines flew 95.65 lakh passengers in July this year registering a growth of 12.4 per cent over the 85.08 lakh passengers flown during the same period in the previous year.
IndiGo retained the number one spot having flown 36.99 lakh passengers in July this year followed by Jet Airways (15.12 lakhs) and SpiceJet (13.58 lakh). Air India carried 12.92 lakh passengers while Go Air flew 7.42 lakh, Vistara 3.49 lakh and AirAsia 3.43 lakh passengers.
Incidentally, IndiGo has occupied the number one spot for flying the maximum number of passengers for seven straight months this year for which data are available.
IndiGo also reported the best on-time performance among all the airlines at 84.6 per cent at the four metro airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. GoAir took the second spot reporting an OTP of 78.2 per cent followed by Vistara (74.5 per cent) and SpiceJet (73.4 per cent).
SpiceJet, however, reported the highest passenger load factor of 94.4 per cent during July this year among all the domestic airlines. Passenger load factor is the number of seats occupied vis-a-vis the number of seats offered.
“This is the 28th month-in-a-row that the airline has flown with load factors in excess of 90 per cent, a feat unparalleled in global aviation history,” said Shilpa Bhatia, Senior Vice-President, Commercial, SpiceJet.
AirAsia reported a PLF of 88.4 per cent, followed by Vistara (84.6 per cent), IndiGo (83.7 per cent) and GoAir (82.5 per cent). July is the second successive month that AirAsia has retained the second spot in PLF reporting among all the major domestic airlines.
The industry paid over ₹4.25 crore to over 1.15 lakh passengers affected by cancellations, delays and those who were denied boarding in July this year.
This includes paying over ₹2.76 crore towards providing facilities and paying compensation to over 1,300 passengers who were denied boarding.
In addition the industry paid over ₹ 99.55 lakh towards facilitation of over 99,500 passengers affected by delays.
