Stepping up preparations for undertaking the Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMV) project for Indian Navy, Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) has embarked on an infrastructure augmentation-cum-modernisation programme with tenders worth over ₹600 crore already floated.

The programme is in an advanced stage of execution, said a spokesperson of GSL on Thursday.

Vendor meet

As a sequel to the two-day convention on ‘Make in Goa/India’, organised by GSL in association with CII on June 24-25, GSL organised an international vendor meet from June 27 to 29 at Chicalim in south Goa.

The meet was intended to identify interested local/indigenous vendors having potential to participate in technologically advanced MCMV project in collaboration with international firms and to make them aware of the specialised requirements such as magnetic and acoustic signature etc, associated with this special class of vessel.

The GSL has taken various initiatives to promote increased level of indigenisation in line with the ‘Make in India’ policy of the government, the spokesperson said.

GSL is planning to submit the terms and conditions offer to the Ministry of Defence/ Navy by September this year.

B2B meetings between the prospective vendors, GSL and Kangnam Corporation Ltd of Korea along with the Korean companies with expertise in MCMV equipment were held.

Around 100 firms including Korean firms Shin Shin, manufacturer of pumps, Arim and Bada, manufacturers of deck machinery, Jeitek and Shinhwa, manufacturers of modular accommodation, furniture, galley and Pactra, dealing with logistics, took part in the meet.
