Krishnapatnam and Kakinada ports have been a major source of revenue for Vijayawada railway division, official sources here said.
In the first half of the current financial year, the Vijayawada railway division earned Rs 1,293.42 crores against Rs 1,058.01 crores during the same period last year, showing a growth of 22.25 per cent, South Central Railway’s Vijayawada divisional railway manager, Pradeep Kumar said in a release issued here.
Of this, the total goods earnings of the division were Rs 983.05 crores, a growth of 27.42 per cent over the same period last year.
The Krishnapatnam port, which is under private management, provided Rs 414.55 crores of revenue to the rail division.
The port alone contributed 44.65 per cent of revenue of the division from goods.
Besides, Kakinada port contributed Rs 165.45 crores to the division in the first half of this fiscal.
Also, the division earned Rs 259.19 crores from passengers, Pradeep Kumar said.
