The Centre on Wednesday issued the much-awaited notification saying that manufacture of Bharat Stage IV (BS-IV) compliant four-wheeler vehicles will be allowed in more States from October 1.
Some of the States include Jammu and Kashmir (except Leh and Kargil), Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and cities of Muradabad, Aligarh, Badaun, Bareilly, Mathura and Mahamayanagar,” the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways said in the notification.
From April 1, 2016, Bharat-IV will be extended in Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and from April 1, 2017 the Mass Emission Standards for Bharat Stage IV shall come into force all over the country, it said.
“With this, only those newly manufactured four-wheeled vehicles, which are complaint with the BS-IV standards, will be allowed to registered and move on roads with effect from the notified dates in the notified areas,” it said.
The BS-IV grade fuel has already been made available in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, including Secunderabad, Kanpur, Pune, Surat, Agra, Lucknow and Sholapur with effect from April 1, 2010. The BS-IV specifications will further reduce the emission of carbon mono-oxide, hydrocarbon, oxides of nitrogen and sulphur.
