The South Central Railway’s freight earnings registered a 6.6 per cent growth during the first quarter of the current fiscal as compared to the corresponding quarter of last fiscal.
During this period, it loaded 27.59 million tonnes of originating freight. The earnings from originating freight loading during the three months was Rs 1964.76 crore, as against Rs 1843.57 crore in the year-ago period.
The gross originating earnings of this zone (including passenger traffic) registered a 11.6 per cent increase at Rs 2893 crore, as compared to Rs 2593 crore during the corresponding period of last fiscal.
While coal accounted for the largest chunk of freight loading, cement and fertiliser cargoes also saw significant increases.
