Jeera futures increased on the back of fresh export demand and short supply in the spot. However, spot prices remained almost steady. On the NCDEX, jeera December contract gained ₹45 to ₹12,365 a quintal, with an open interest of 6,813 lots while January contract was up ₹20 to ₹12,530, with an open interest of 2,607 lots. According to Kedia Commodity report, outlook remains bullish for jeera on account of fall in supplies from producing belts against fresh buying by retailers and stockists. Also geo-political tensions in Syria and Turkey have led to a supply crunch in the global markets raising supply concerns from the two major exporting countries. About 25,000 bags of jeera arrived in Unjha mandi of Gujarat and went for ₹1,800-2,150 for a maund of 20 kg. Around 800-1,000 bags arrived in Rajkot for ₹1,750-1,975.
