Pepper prices remained steady on Monday on limited activities. However, the fear of increased availability of imported pepper coupled with the possible release of 6,000 tonnes of pepper being held in the warehouses is keeping the market bearish, market sources told Business Line .
They said dealers in Sakhleshpur and Chikmagalur in Karnataka were reportedly offering pepper at ₹675 a kg delivered anywhere in India. Similarly, upper Indian markets were also offering Sri Lankan pepper at ₹675. From the plains of Malabar the local material is being offered at ₹650. On the spot, 11 tonnes of pepper arrived and were traded.
High range pepper was sold at ₹685 while that from Rajkaumari was traded at ₹690. Spot prices were steady at ₹67,500 (ungarbled) and ₹70,500 (garbled) a quintal. Export prices dropped to $11,975 a tonne cf for Europe and $12,225 for the US.
