Spot turmeric prices at Erode markets decreased on Friday due to arrival of poor quality.
“Though the traders are having reasonable demand from North India, they could not purchase as poor quality turmeric is arriving for sale. The farmers are having huge stock of turmeric with them, including possession of super fine quality but are bringing limited quantities of medium and poor quality turmeric, expecting higher prices next year,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
On Friday, the hybrid finger turmeric decreased by ₹100 a quintal and the hybrid root variety ₹200. The local finger turmeric was up ₹100-200.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹3,178-6,515 a quintal; the root variety ₹3,153-5,939.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety went for ₹5,459-6,814; the root variety ₹5,166-6,169. Of the arrival of 803 bags, 99 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,693-6,787; the root variety ₹5,413-6,289. Of the 866 bags on sale, 821 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,489-6,721; the root variety ₹5,296-6,186. All the 633 bags found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,589-6,510 and the root variety ₹5,169-6,169. All the 46 bags were traded.
