Andhra Pradesh has registered a growth of 9.72 per cent in the first quarter ended June 30 as against all-India average of 7.1 per cent, according to a report brought out by the State.
In a sector-wise assessment outlined during the two-day conference with district collectors and State-level officials in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu released the report on the “First-quarter Assessment for April-June 2015-16 and the Way Forward.”
Double-Digit Growth Strategy Outlining what is planned under the Double-Digit Growth Strategy, the Chief Minister said District Collectors have a crucial role in ensuring a sustainable economy, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Naidu said agriculture contributed 12.52 per cent to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) as against 1.9 per cent to the country’s GDP, industries contributed 7.19 per cent to the GSDP against 6.5 per cent nationally and the services contributed 10.15 per cent to the GSDP against 8.9 per cent contribution to India’s GDP.
In an analysis of GSDP and Per Capita Income, while Visakhapatnam and Krishna districts were leading, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram have been rated as under-performing districts.
The Chief Minister pointed out the huge difference in per capita income between various mandals in each district and suggested positive interventions and spending of resources to attain inclusive growth across all the mandals of the State.
The report evaluated revenue distribution of districts on parameters like commercial taxes, prohibition and excise, registration and stamps, transport, forest, mines and geology and land revenue.
“Adopt a scientific approach to evaluate sector-wise contribution to the GSDP and prepare a need-based budget plan,” he said.
Even though the Government spends a fourth of the State’s budget on social empowerment mission, the Chief Minister said, health, education, women and child welfare sectors failed to deliver results due to weak delivery mechanism and poor performance.
