CII members on Saturday have asked West Bengal Government to look into the absence of schools, hospitals and basic social infrastructure in satellite industrial towns like Kharagpur.

Tata Metaliks and Tata Hitachi represented to State Finance and Industry Minister Amit Mitra that Kharagpur lack social life. The corporates also pointed out that the town have one decent school and one Railway hospital. The State Government should also play a more active role in maintaining industrial peace, particularly on the issue of contract labour.

CISCO said the State needed to build a IT start up culture and funding ecosystem. Assuring that the State Government would act on the suggestions, Mitra claimed that in a little more than three years, the Government was able to attract investment proposal worth Rs 86,423 crore in the large and medium category sector. "Of this Rs 7000 crore was on ground", he added.
