Fipola will be the latest entrant in the meat retail store segment in the city offering fresh meat and seafood.

Three stores will be opened on September 25 in Anna Nagar, along East Coast Road and Old Mahabalipuram Road, according to Sushil Kanugolu, Managing Director and CEO, Fipola, which is backed by city-based SR-Marine, a major seafood exporter.

Around ₹10 crore has been invested in the new venture, which will commence operations with a team of nearly 200 members coming from different industries, including retail, he said.

Fipola, which will offer fresh meat and seafood, will procure products from across the State. It has set up a 10,000 sq ft processing facility in Madhavaram and will have its own supply chain with vehicles able to store products in 0-4 degrees.

In the back-end Fipola is supported by eight dispatch depots across the city to ensure delivery in 90 minutes across the city to customers who order through the company’s e-commerce portal and call centre, he said.

Shibu Thampan, Corporate Chef, Fipola, said nearly 150 products, including fish, mutton and chicken will be available in the stores.

The stores will be odour-free, and will have certified and trained butchers, who will cut, slice and pack the meat in front of the customers.

In next 12-24 months, the company will have a total of 24 stores in Chennai, and then expand to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune in phases, said Kanugolu.
