A total of 31.76 lakh laptops worth ₹6,456 crore were distributed free to students of government schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu in the last five years, thus achieving 100 per cent target set for distribution.
The laptop distribution was one of the Special Programmes Implementation initiated by the present government.
A review meeting of the programme was held today where in KT Rajendra Balaji, Minister in charge for Special Programme, informed about the 100 per cent target achievement.
The programme launched in September 2011 was to equip students of government-run and government-supported schools and colleges to meet the requirements of digital era.
