Taiwan-based MediaTek is looking to bring fully integrated system solutions to the automotive industry during the first quarter of this calendar.

The company is into semiconductors, connectivity and systems-on-chips for mobile devices and wireless networking. It is showcasing its wares at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Last year, MediaTek’s R&D teams started working with European-based car vendors. Taking inputs from smartphone manufacturers, it has been redeveloping its chipsets so as to optimise them for the automotive electronics industry.

The company is now looking to up the ante in its partnership with NavInfo, a Chinese digital mapping provider. With vendors increasingly automating their vehicles, MediaTek is looking to bring integrated solutions. This will involve incorporating autonomous driving features, as well as safety and convenience features across its package of semi-conductors.

“The demands of connected and autonomous vehicles require a unique portfolio of technologies. MediaTek’s core competencies create a natural progression for us to design for the future of driving,” says JC Hsu, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the New Business Department Business Unit.
