The World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of theWorld Health Organization, is to meet in Geneva betweenMay 22 and 31. To be attended by all WHO member-states, the WHA will focus on a health agenda prepared by its Executive Board. Its main functions are to determine WHO policies, appoint the Director-General (DG), supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget. The meeting is being tracked with interest by developing countries including India, particularly to see if it will discuss the UN High-level Panel’s Access to Medicine report. The UN report had taken a sharp view on intellectual property rights, even going so far as to call it “inimical to human rights”.
