As Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit has seen a transformation from an investment exercise to India’s largest growth propelling event, the State Government has put significant impetus on inclusive and sustainable growth. Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 has taken a step ahead assuming far greater relevance in terms of foreign intelligence being exchanged. Taking the story forward, opportunities lying in student exchange and skill development and training-research between some of the world’s esteemed universities and Gujarat, have been highlighted.As the Government of Gujarat is keen on opening specialized universities in the field of Mines studies, Maritime studies and Agro processing & Farming to name a few, knowledge sharing is one of the key areas of collaboration for VGGS 2017.To bring expertise and the best technology in some of these areas, Government of Gujarat delegations that visited various countries explored collaboration opportunities with specialized universities. For example, Wageningen University of The Netherlands, one of the best universities in the world, specializing in food and agro processing was approached to bring in their expertise to the Indian farming ecosystem. Furthermore, an academic collaboration in the field of startups and robotics with Tel Aviv University of Israel was discussed and deliberated upon, during the visit of the Government of Gujarat delegation to the university. The delegation that travelled to Russia visited St. Petersburg Mines University which was established in 1773 and has notable alumni like Hon’ble President Mr. Vladimir Putin. The University which specializes in Mining studies, Mine safety and related technologies already has a partnership with University of Delhi for scientific publications, research internships, participation in conferences and seminars. The Rector of St. Petersburg Mines University extended invitation to the Government of Gujarat to send specialists to study their facility and their technology before setting up a mining university in Gujarat. The delegation that travelled to Australia also met with some of the top educational institutions and Australia’s key education body, TAFE Directors Australia (TDA). TDA is the national body incorporated to represent Australia’s 58 government-owned Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes and university TAFE divisions, and the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC).Additionally, Gujarat University Vice Chancellor M.N. Patel travelled along with some of these delegation to explore such partnerships in setting up specialized universities in Gujarat.
