Danish brewer Carlsberg is scouting for a site to set up one more brewery in India as it is close to its full capacity utilisation during the current summer months.

Carlsberg, now has five manufacturing units in the country. It has recently doubled the capacity to one million hectolitres at its manufacturing base located about 70 km from Hyderabad in Medak district.

Mr Soren Lauridsen, Managing Director of Carlsberg India, said, “The company is set to reach full capacity utilisation during the summer months. Therefore, we are looking at setting up another plant in India. However, we are yet to finalise the location.”

“In India, States have their own way of dealing with sale of beer. For instance, we cannot sell beer in Tamil Nadu unless we have a local manufacturing facility. Therefore, we are in the process of evaluating sites for a new plant. Typically, a new plant requires about $35-40 million. It varies depending on local land cost,” he explained.

The company has become the third largest beer seller in the country even though it is a distant third. It accounted for about 6.1 per cent market share as of 2011 and now close to 7 per cent.

“We hope to achieve a double digit share within two years,” he said addressing a press conference,

TUBORG IN NEW AVATAR

Mr Lauridsen launched Tuborg, their fastest growing beer brand in a new avatar. The labelling has been done innovatively. When one consumes beer directly from the bottle at 62.5 degrees, that is the normal way of drinking, Tuborg title gets displayed perfectly.
