Officials from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence today visited Nokia's plant at Sriperumbudur.
While sources said the visit was to inquire on various transactions done in the past, department officials could not be reached to confirm this. The company was already involved in legal battle with the Income Tax Department over alleged tax evasion.
However, Nokia spokesperson in an email statement said, “Nokia can confirm that its Indian facilities were visited by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Wednesday.”
Nokia extended its full cooperation to the authorities, duly responding to all queries raised and extending its full support to help them during their visit.
The visit of DRI officials is significant considering that the process of Microsoft acquiring Nokia globally, including the plant here, is nearing completion.
The Sriperumbudur plant is Nokia's largest for the company in the world for the company.
