You may soon be able to open and close the door of your house, switch on the AC, and detect fire through your smart phone.

Eureka Forbes, the maker of water purifiers and vacuum cleaners, plans to introduce such a home automation device in the country.

Eureka Forbes, a part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, is currently testing about 15 units of its latest home automation device in Bangalore.

The company is readying itself for a nation-wide launch of the device in a couple of months from now, according to CEO (Direct Sales) and Senior Vice- President (Marketing), Mr Marzin Shroff.

“The launch of the device would strengthen our security solutions business, which is growing at 20-30 per cent annually,” Mr Shroff said.

The device would work on ‘cloud' through a centrally-controlled server, to be set up in Vashi near Mumbai. The device would route all the signals to your phone, which will act as a remote to control your door, television, AC etc. It will be available for around Rs 1 lakh.

Surveillance gadgets

The company is currently providing security solutions such as CCTVs and other surveillance gadgets. Though this segment contributes just about Rs 27 crore to the total turnover of Rs 1,560 crore, it is witnessing the highest growth rate at 45 per cent.

“People are travelling a lot and thus need a technology solution through which they can ensure the security of their family.

Also there is a huge scope to tap the growing smart phone market,' Mr Shroff said.

The device is safe and secure and operates with a unique customer code and password, Mr Marzin said.

Water purifier segment

Besides, home security solutions, the company is also focussing on the water purifier segment, which is the highest revenue grosser at Rs 1,120 crore with a compounded annual growth rate of 15 per cent.
