Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) will supply specially developed stainless steel materials and execute a Rs 1.32-crore contract for Chennai Municipal Corporation to clad barriers and pillars of a Chennai flyover.
SAIL said it would provide the cladding material from its Salem Steel Plant as well as fabricate and install the barrier profiles on the flyover (at the junction of Dr. Radhakrishnan Road and TTK Road) over a length of around 1,040 metres.
A conversion agent appointed by SAIL will undertake necessary fabrication/forming operations and make the profiles for encasing work.
The corporation plans to take up similar corrosion resistant cladding work for 120 other flyovers in the city to save on maintenance and refurbishment costs. The SAIL has developed a special variety of stainless steel, which can withstand weather conditions in the coastal environment.
