Toyota Kirloskar has decided to put off the launch of its hatchback Etios Liva by a few months, and initiated several other measures to free capacity to increase the production of the Etios sedan.

A press statement from the company on Friday said this will help bring down the waiting period for Etios to half of the current situation. The current waiting period for delivery of Etios is about eight months.

Some of the measures planned include starting the second shift and postponement of the launch of Etios Liva to June from April. Toyota Kirloskar Managing Director, Mr Hiroshi Nakagawa, said such measures will help increase the production of Etios. Once the second shift commences, the number of vehicles produced will gradually increase from about 120 units a day to about 230 units.

Toyota Kirloskar has invested about Rs 3,200 crore for the production of both the Etios models, and they are being manufactured at the second plant at Bidadi near Bangalore. The production capacity of the plant is about 70,000 vehicles a year.
