UAE-based Star Engineering Group has said it would launch a chain of Hot Dog and Burger retailing kiosks across the country, starting with Kochi. It plans to open 300 units in three years through the franchisee route, Mr Benny John, Managing Director, Chickeez Star Foods Pvt Ltd, said. The group has invested Rs 2 crore so far and would invest about Rs 6-7 crore to open outlets across Kerala and elsewhere. The products would be launched under the ‘Chickeez' banner.

The company will launch 15 outlets in Kochi, of which nine would become operational by January 31. Malayalam actress Samvratha Sunil will formally launch the Chickeez fast food chain at a function in Kochi tomorrow, he said. A series of Hot Dog eating competitions and festival would be held over two days. The kiosks will be present in retail outlets, shopping malls, petrol stations, airports, railways stations, highway services areas and resorts, Mr John said. The investment would be funded through internal accruals and equity, he said. On the competition from established players, he said there is enough space for more players in the segment.
