Tecumseh Products Company of US, a leading manufacturer of compressors with two manufacturing bases in India, is planning to further expand its engineering capability in India for launch of few more products while also stepping up exports from here.
Mr Michael Noelke, Executive Vice-President, Engineering and Marketing, Tecumseh Products Company, said the first such product would be a new generation compressor introduced for global commercial operations.
“This is a significant launch for the company as it seeks to tap into a growing business opportunity globally, and particularly the region, where China and India are of significant importance. The Indian manufacturing capacity with an annual production capability of 4.5 million units a year, plays a big role in sourcing for some other markets,” Mr Noelke told Business Line .
“Tecumseh, a $1-billion revenue company, is currently in the expansion mode when it comes to its engineering and research and development teams. They form a crucial aspect for the company in its quest to reach out to new markets with localised products.
“As part of this expansion, we see the number of engineers in India going up. India centre already provides both research and tech support for global operations of Tecumseh,” he said.
For the company, which has grown globally through partnerships, it is in the process of firming up more partners in the Indian subcontinent. It recently signed up with Panasonic to supply compressors, and expects to be part of the multi-national companies with whom it partners globally, in India too, he said.
