B.C. Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL (India), has got a five-year extension once his existing term gets over in July 2014.
This puts to rest all speculation on Tripathi’s next move, since he did not appear for the interviews of the other two top positions — Chairman and Managing Director, ONGC, and Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation.
For both the positions, Tripathi was tipped to be the front-runner.
Sources in know of development told Business Line that this happened late evening on Thursday.
Tripathi, who became GAIL Chairman and Managing Director in 2009, was the youngest to get such a position. Those, within the industry say it was age which played a spoilsport in getting Tripathi ONGC top post.
At 53, today, after this extension also Tripathi will still have minimum one year on his side. The retirement age for PSU chiefs today is 60.
