India is expected to have big presence at Biotechnology Industry Organisation (BIO) international convention to be held at Boston.

Association of Biotech Led Enterprises (ABLE), the industry body for the biotech sector in India, is leading a delegation 40 companies, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), on its part, has lined up a few companies, government officials, biotech professionals and entrepreneurs to the convention being from June 18 to 21.

To showcase India, the CII has taken 2,200 sq. ft of exhibition space and ABLE on its own has taken 1,400 sq. ft.

Both CII and ABLE, which are projecting India as preferred destination for partnership and investment, are to hold exclusive ‘India Evening' networking reception, biotech mission, India exhibitor catalogue show.

“The main key agenda for us is to facilitate opportunities to Indian industry in collaborations, research and development (R&D) for Indian R&D/academic institutions.

Also to showcase R&D strengths of India,” said the ABLE official. Prominent companies taking part are Advinus, Biocon, Ecron Acunova, Karnataka Department of IT/BT, Bigtec Labs, IKP Knowledge Park, Faridabad Biotech Cluster, IC Bio.

The Union Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh, is likely to head the Indian delegation and others include Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology and Department of Biotechnology, Dr M.K. Bhan; the ABLE President and Managing Director, Evolva Biotech, Dr P.M. Murali, Ms Kiran Mazudmar Shaw and other biotech professionals and entrepreneurs.

At the convention, ABLE also plans to showcase biotech parks established (and under establishment) in various states to attract global biotech industries to India.
