Customs authorities have detected import of sub-standard toys worth Rs 120.96 lakh in 2010-11 and initiated action, Parliament was informed today. “Some import of sub-standard cheap products including, toys, milk, chocolates have been witnessed in the past...,” the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, said in written reply to Lok Sabha.
The query was regarding import of Chinese sub-standard products. However, as per the data provided by MR Scindia, the import of sub-standard toys have shown a decline in the current fiscal. Such imports were valued at Rs 472.66 lakh in 2009-10. The minister also informed that action has been initiated under the Customs Act, 1962 against the imports.
