The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh; the Congress President, Ms Sonia Gandhi; and senior party functionaries met here on Monday to decide on a strategy for the forthcoming Parliament Budget session which begins on February 21.
The meeting assumes importance as the Government not only has to firm up proposals for Budget 2011-12 but also decide on the Bills which are likely to be introduced during the Parliament session.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of the deliberations that Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, had with leaders of the major political parties to break the logjam in Parliament on the demand of the Opposition parties for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum issue.
The deadlock between the Opposition and treasury benches on whether a JPC should probe the issue saw the entire winter session of Parliament being disrupted.
The Finance Minister is expected to apprise the Prime Minister on the views of the political parties. He is also expected to meet with his own party leaders on Tuesday to seek suggestions for the Budget.
