The DHAN Vayalagam (Tank) Foundation (DVTF), a water theme collective of DHAN Foundation, a leading non-government organization, here and Axis Bank Foundation (ABF), Mumbai, have joined hands to give a fillip to sustainable development.
The project involves renovation of 750 water bodies in four blocks, comprising of 625 tanks and 125 village ponds in Pambar and Kottakaraiar river basin in S.Pudur (Sivagangai district), Kottampatti (Madurai didistrict), Nathem(Dindigul district) and Ponnamaravathy (Pudukottai district), which together support 20,000 small and marginal farmers and 10,000 families for drinking water needs.
The project will implemented by DVTF, with funding support from ABF to the tune of Rs 13.5 crore as part of CSR activity of the bank.
According to Mr C. Babu Joseph, Executive Trustee and CEO, ABF, the foundation has worked with 67 NGOs in 13 states in projects benefiting more than 60,000 people and the alignment with DHAN Foundation marked a shift from education and healthcare earlier to sustainable livelihood.
