Some 22 per cent of the five-week low volume of 18.57 lakh kg offered at Sale No: 30 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions remained unsold for want of buyers at asking prices.

Homedale Estate topped the CTC market when its Red Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, was bought by Paras Tea Co at Rs 179 a kg. Vigneshwar Estate got Rs 172, Crosshill Estate Rs 165 and Hittakkal Estate Rs 163. In all, 39 marks got Rs 125 and more per kg.

Among orthodox teas, Chamraj and Corsley got Rs 245, Havukal Rs 181, Highfield Estate Rs 180 and Kairbetta Rs 177. In all, 31 marks got Rs 125 and more per kg.

Exporters to Pakistan paid Rs 69-103 a kg and to the CIS, Rs 70-81. There was some purchase for some European ports at Rs 86-100. Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging Rs 68-71 a kg for plain leaf grades and Rs 115-155 for brighter liquoring sorts.
