Some 23 per cent of 10.94 lakh kg offered at Sale No: 11 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction remained unsold for want of bidders despite reducing prices by ₹1.50 a kg.
Darmona Estate tea, auctioned by J Thomas and Co, topped CTC market and the Leaf auctions fetching ₹222 a kg. Homedale Estate’s Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped Dust auctions fetching ₹202.
Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe Small leaf (₹221), Broken Pekoe leaf (₹202) and Pekoe Dust (₹200), all auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, were the only other grades which entered ₹200-and-more bracket. In all, 64 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Chamraj’s ‘Orange Pekoe’ excelled in orthodox market emerging as the only one crossing ₹300-a-kg bracket when it fetched ₹310.
Corsley got ₹252, Kairbetta and Kodanad at ₹250 each and Havukal ₹210. In all, 38 marks got ₹125 and more per kg.
Quotations held by brokers indicated bids ranging ₹50-55 a kg for plain leaf grades and ₹100-160 for brighter liquoring sorts. They ranged ₹61-67 for plain dusts and ₹110-175 for brighter liquoring dusts.
There was some purchase for Pakistan in range ₹54-87 a kg.
