The three day, 73rd annual conference of the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics will begin on Wednesday at the National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM) here.

More than 200 scientists, professors and directors will deliberate on three technical sessions the growth, status and future prospects of agricultural economics and policy in the background of the XII Five Year Plan.

The sessions will focus on, “Development of Dryland Agriculture: Technological, Institutional, Infrastructural and Policy Imperatives,” “Agricultural Research and Extension in India—Achievements and Failures and Directions for the Future,” and “Agribusiness/Trade Opportunities for Inclusive Growth,” will include keynote presentations followed by in-depth analysis and deliberations.

C.H. Hanumantha Rao, Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, will inaugurate the conference and deliver the inaugural address. C. Ramasamy, President, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE) and former Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, will give the background of the conference.

The Society was established in 1939 and its current objectives are “to promote the study of social and economic problems of agriculture and the rural areas and also to promote technical competence for teaching and research in agricultural economics and allied subjects.”
