Tea workers' unions have called a three-day strike in north Bengal tea gardens from August 10 and a 12-hour general strike on August 12 after talks on wage revision remained inconclusive.
The Coordination Committee of Tea Plantation Workers convener, Mr Chitta Dey, said today that tea workers were amenable to a minimum wage of Rs 130 plus variable DA instead of its earlier demand of Rs 165, but the Consultative Committee of Plantation Workers which negotiates on behalf of the planters, had refused to accept it and offered a mere Rs 75.
Tea garden workers now receive Rs 67 daily as against the State government recommended Rs 180.
