Exports of all varieties of onions, excluding those that are cut, sliced or in powder form, have been banned by the government on Monday, with immediate effect, in a move to check spiralling prices in the local market.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade, in a notification, specified that export of onions, which was so far free, is now prohibited. “The provisions under transitional arrangement shall not be applicable under this notification,” it added.
In Delhi, onion prices have been ruling at a high of about ₹ 40 per kilogram, causing discontentment amongst buyers.
