The rising trend seen last few weeks in the offer for the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association continues this week with a volume of 21.96 lakh kg being offered for Sale No: 27 which will conclude on Friday.
This is 2.92 lakh kg more than last week’s offer.
Of the 21.96 lakh kg offered, 20.88 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.08 lakh kg was orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades.
In the leaf counter, only 68,000 kgs belongs to orthodox while 13.22 lakh kg was CTC. Among the dusts, only 40,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 7.66 lakh kg was CTC.
In all, 13.90 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 8.06 lakh kg, Dust grades.
Homedale Red Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the auctions last week when Shreeji Trades bought it for ₹261 a kg. Its Broken Orange Pekoe grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers topped the Leaf tea auctions at ₹251.
These prices were more than the export-oriented orthodox teas from corporate sector. Besides, Homedale Super Red Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers (₹220) and Homedale Broken Pekoe grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers (₹200) were the only CTC teas to enter the high-price bracket of ₹200.
