The country needs around 156 lakh tonnes (lt) of urea during the ongoing rabi season of which 129 lt will be met through domestic production and the rest is being imported, said the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, D V Sadananda Gowda, on Wednesday.
“There is sufficient field stock of fertilisers available in all the States,’’ he said in an official statement.
Peak consumption months for fertilisers are this month and next month. Similarly, adequate quantity of phosphatic and potassic fertilisers are being made available through domestic production as well as imports, he said.
According to Gowda, there is day-to-day coordination with the Railways to ensure smooth movement of fertilisers across the country. Both the Department of Fertilisers and Railways are working in a coherent manner to ensure timely availability of fertilisers across the country.
During kharif 2018 season, an additional 250 rakes were made available for fertilisers compared with kharif 17 season, the Minister added.
