A volume of 18.05 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 23 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions scheduled to conclude on Friday. This is as much as 1.40 lakh kg less than last week’s offer.

Of this, 11.38 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 6.67 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 16.86 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.19 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades.

In the leaf counter, only 70,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 10.68 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 49,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.18 lakh kg, CTC.

Homedale Red Dust, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped not only the dust tea auctions but the entire CTC market last week when Badhusha Tea Company bought it for ₹233 a kg. Two other grades followed at ₹208 and ₹206.

Two grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC Leaf auctions at ₹203 and ₹201.
