A volume of 19.90 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 24 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday.
This is some 39,000 kg more than last week’s offer. As much as 5.51 lakh kg comprises teas remaining unsold in previous auctions.
Of this, 13.85 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and the rest is of dust grade. As much as 18.82 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.08 lakh kg, orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 56,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 13.29 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 52,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.53 lakh kg, CTC.
New price records were created last week. “Two leaf grades from Vigneshwar Estate tea factory which have won ‘Golden Leaf India Award 2015’ fetched ₹250 a kg each. This record was created when Santhosh Tea Industry bought Broken Orange Pekoe Small grade and J K Enterprises, Broken Pekoe grade. This was the highest price fetched by any CTC tea so far this calendar,” Ravichandran Broos, General Manger, Paramount Tea Marketing, which auctioned these teas, told BusinessLine . There was some purchase for Pakistan in a wide range of ₹81-101 a kg.
