Plans are afoot to transform the sprawling Bannerghatta biological park, one of the key tourist attractions of this technology hub, into eco-friendly one.
In simple terms, it means most of the energy and water requirements at the 700-hectare park would be met in-house, without depending on external sources.
Biodiversity Conservation (India) Ltd (BCIL), an ecologically committed organisation, has come forward to revamp the Bannerghatta park free of cost to make it eco-friendly or green, Karnataka's Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr M.N. Jayakumar, told PTI.

The park with multiple sections such as zoo, butterfly facility and various safaris, houses 1,300-1,400 animals and birds, including about 150 tigers, leopards and lions, added Mr Jayakumar, also Member-Secretary of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka.
The idea is to take up a comprehensive renovation programme in the park, which would sport a different look with new enclosures being built and the existing one getting a make-over, he said.
“We will generate most of our energy requirements of the park (through solar and biogas routes). We may not depend on external power. Similarly, we may generate all the water requirements of the park,” Mr Jayakumar said. “So, it's going to be totally green-park; all energy-efficient designs will be utilised, incorporated.”
Once the revamp plan is ready, it would be sent to Central Zoo Authority for formal approval, he added.
