Products like medical equipment, toys and vehicles can get competitive advantage in international markets by getting the tag of India Design Mark, which symbolises product excellence in terms of quality, safety and innovation.

The Government today invited local manufacturers, small-scale enterprises and exporters to submit their products for getting design mark, thus “imparting competitive advantage to products in local and international markets’’.

India Design Mark is a standard and a symbol, which signifies design excellence. India Design Council, a body under the aegis of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, in association with the Japanese Institute of Design Promotion will grant the mark after evaluating good design through a systematic process.

The design mark on the items, including consumer electronics, computer and communication products, machine tools, capital goods and agricultural machinery, would communicate their usability and durability.

“Anyone can apply — the manufacturer, the brand owner or the designer. Any product, which is designed and is in market since January 2010 can be entered...,” the government said.

The symbol can be used for promotion in different ways like adverts and product packaging.
