The NDA Government has plans to form groupings of States with common interests and facing similar challenges on the lines of the NITI North-East Forum, the think-tank’s Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar said on Tuesday. “Now that we have formed this forum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on similar councils of States so they can work together to identify common problems and jointly work to solve them,” Kumar told the inaugural meeting of the NITI NE Forum here.
The next could be the council of Himalayan States followed by a grouping of coastal States and that of the States in the Indo-Gangetic plains, according to him.
The Prime Minister believes that as these States have many commonalities and similarities, working together will help solve their problems better, Kumar said.
