The Karnataka Government gets maximum ‘Sakala' (guarantee of services to citizens act) applications from Bangalore related to revenue and commercial taxes departments.

Addressing reporters, the Karnataka Law Minister, Mr S. Suresh Kumar, said Bangalore urban district stood 10th in the overall ranking of districts and received 1.63 lakh applications, of which 1.27 lakh have been received disposed off majority of it related to revenue and commercial taxes departments.

The state government is also planning to bring the Right to Information (RTI) queries under the Sakala ambit from this year. Talking about the Sakala scheme roll out in the state since April 2, Mr Suresh Kumar said “We have achieved 98.59 per cent success, about 10 lakh applications comprising 10 departments were received and of which 8.5 lakh applications have been disposed off.”

Of the 30 districts, Uttara Kannada (0.33 per cent) topped the list with maximum disposal of applications followed by Chikaballapur (0.48 per cent), Dakshina Kannada (0.58 per cent), and Chitradurga (0.61 per cent).

The districts with poor record are Gulbarga 4.11 (per cent), Kodagu (3.39 per cent), Kolar 2.87 per cent, Chikamagalur (2.64 per cent) and Shimoga (2.57 per cent).

To strengthen and to create awareness in the state a budget of Rs 2 crore is planned for this year and Rs 1 crore for manpower training.

Mr Suresh Kumar said after one full month of operations, the need is felt to strengthen it by involving the NGOs and resident welfare associations.

“To engage them, the government is holding an interactive session with India Against Corruption on May 6, with resident welfare associations on May 8 and a state-level workshop some time mid June, he added.
