It is a race of orders between Airbus and Boeing, the two largest aircraft makers in the world, with deals reportedly worth $42 billion having been inked on the first day of the week long Paris Air Show.
Analysts said that by inking a deal with Mahindra Aerospace, a Mahindra Group subsidiary that was awarded an aero components production contract by the Airbus Group company at the aerospace show, India stands to improve its industrial credentials on the international marquee.
Existing orders“Both Airbus and Boeing have a backlog of some 12,000 orders stretching ahead several years. Even as they battle for more orders at the air show, they have to start attending to the backlog they have on their order books,” said a defence analyst tracking the sector.
He added that by roping in Mahindra Aerospace, Airbus had ensured that an Indian firm could soon feature among the notables in the aviation and defence industry.
The multi-year contract will have Mahindra Aerospace manufacture and supply a variety of metallic components that would be fitted into several Airbus aircraft programmes, as part of the assemblies produced by Premium Aerotec. The latter has an aerospace manufacturing business, and is headquartered in Augsburg, Germany. It is a subsidiary of the Airbus Group.
Primary businessThe company’s core business lies in the development and production of metal and carbon fibre composite aircraft structures, as well as the associated equipment and production systems. The company also produces metal components for all Airbus airliners, as also titanium parts for the Airbus A400M.
