To encourage people to use public transport and reduce traffic congestion, the District Administration is planning to organise a ‘Bus Day' in West Kochi, in association with the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The event will be held between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. in Fort Kochi and the dates would be announced shortly. A meeting under the leadership of the RDO, Mr Mohanadasan Pillai, was held the other day to discuss the programme.
The Cochin Corporation, RTO, DTPC, Private Bus operators, Bus Owners, KSRTC, Tourism Department, and City Police, have extended their support. The meet also discussed the attitude of bus crew towards public and decided to organise an awareness camp on May 23 to improve their public relations. The two-hour camp will be supported by the Regional Transport Office.
Road congestion
It has also been decided that the Bus Day would be held once in a month for three consecutive months. The city roads will not be congested if people use public transport. Many celebrities are expected to participate in the programme . VIPs and celebrities will travel by bus on these days and deliver messages on the need to use public transport. They will board the bus from various places in the city and arrive at Fort Kochi.
