Vinit Kumar has taken over charge as chairman of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) effective Monday.
MT Krishna Babu, the Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust, was holding additional charge of KoPT since March 2016, in an interim arrangement.
Kumar is an IRSEE (Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers) officer of 1993 batch.
Before joining as chairman of KoPT, Kumar was chief electrical engineer in Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. and was looking after the World Bank funded MUTP (Mumbai Urban Transport Project) project, said a press statement issued by KoPT.
Kumar also held administrative post of secretary, Central Railway and gained multi-dimensional experience in general administration.
Immediately after assuming charge, Kumar, held a meeting with the deputy chairmen and heads of departments of Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex at the Kolkata Port Trust headquarters.
