The 3-day safety inspection to be conducted on the last stretch of Phase-I Chennai Metro between AG-DMS to Washermanpet station, from today, said Pankaj Kumar Bansal, MD, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
The 9.26 km stretch between AG DMS and Washermanpet is the largest stretch of the Phase-I Chennai Metro project which covers 7 stations.
Safety inspection which includes fire & lighting, passenger amenities, on day 1 would cover the stretch between Washermanpet and Central station, while day 2 will cover the remaining stretch upto AG DMS station. On day 3, safety officials will conduct signal integration test.
“We will submit the safety certification to the concerned authorities once the testing is completed and they will take a call on inauguration date,” said K A Manoharan, Commissioner, Metro Railways Safety(CMRS), CRS/S. Circle, Bangalore.
When asked about increasing instances of signal issues, Manoharan said that he had not received any major complaints on the issue but assured that he would look into systems that captures ‘service affected time’ of signal operations.
On Phase-I extension between Washermanpet and Wimco nagar, Bansal said the stretch is expected to be operational by June 2020.
