South Eastern Railway (SER) and the Eastern Railway (ER) divisions of the Indian Railways saw a near 7 per cent and 3 per cent increase in revenues from freight loading last fiscal.

SER saw its FY-17 freight loading earnings increase by Rs 737 crore to Rs 11,556 crore. On the other hand, ER earned Rs 4,533 crore (Rs 4,397 crore).

While SER saw a one per cent decline in coal loading last fiscal to 25.12 mt over the last year; ER witnessed a 4 per cent rise in coal loading for the same period. Coal loading in ER, this fiscal, was 35.54 mt (34.16 mt).

“The accident in Lalmitia mines in Jharkhand saw coal production stop there, which along with other issues in the sector led to slightly reduced numbers for SER division,” S.N. Agrawal, General Manager in charge of both SER and ER, said.

However, pig iron and steel loading across both the divisions saw a substantial year-on-year increase.

In case of SER pig iron and steel loading last fiscal stood at 15.52 mt or 5 per cent over FY-16.

Earnings from passenger traffic also saw around a 5 per cent rise in FY-17 for both SER and ER. In absolute terms, SER earned Rs 1,925 crore, while ER earned 2,573 crore respectively.
