Kuehne + Nagel, the Switzerland-based freight forwarding company, will manage the entire warehousing operations for Bonfiglioli, an Italian company, which is putting up a new assembly plant near Chennai.
Tie-up
The tie-up is an example of a multinational company bringing a foreign-based company to be its third-party logistics service provider, according to an official of a leading Chennai-based company, which provides logistics services to some of the multinationals located here.
For Bonfiglioli, which supplies power transmission and control systems, Kuehne + Nagel will provide logistics offerings such as inbound materials receipt, order processing and line replenishing.
The logistics portfolio also includes re-packing, picking and packing, inbound transportation, finished goods loading, materials cleaning and preservation as well as documentation.
In June, Bonfiglioli inaugurated a new plant at Mannur near Sriperumbudur.
Lean concept
The entire operation of the new industrial business unit is based on a ‘lean' concept with the full infrastructure for warehouse, assembly, quality control and sales services.
The facility is equipped with Kuehne + Nagel information and warehouse management systems guaranteeing efficient management of 6,000 stock-keeping units and 1,200 pallets for Bonfiglioli. It will also provide a team of dedicated staff handling the business for the customer, said a spokesperson for Kuehne + Nagel (Asia Pacific) Management Pte. Ltd based out of Hong Kong.
