For women in their forties, who had given up potentially successful careers to take care of their families, School of Inspired Leadership (Soil) is launching a course to get them back into the work force.

Career reconnect

The one year part-time Career Reconnect for Women Program (CRWP) aims to train the women who have lost currency and self-confidence due to the sabbatical.

“Women who did very well in their careers before getting married at the age of 26-27, are relatively free from familial obligations at 40 when their kids start going to college, have a long and fruitful life ahead of them. These talented women need to be given their due in the corporate world and we will help them reconnect with the market,” said Mr Shyam Viswanathan, Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives, Soil.

1-year course

The one-year course would be taught in three instalments of two weeks residential program each. Along with the basics of an MBA program such as marketing, finance, operations, strategy, technology and entrepreneurship fundamentals, the course will provide a one on one mentor to the women, said Mr Viswanathan.

The faculty and mentors would be picked from the illustrious consortium of the college that includes the likes of Nokia, Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Bank, Infosys, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, Dabur, Mahindra, Johnson & Johnson, Aditya Birla Group, TVS, GlaxoSmithKline, ABB and Hindustan Petroleum.

Comfort zone

The few industries where the women trained from Soil might find a comfort zone, according to Mr Viswanathan are HR services, corporate communications, marketing, healthcare and hospitality.

The college would also help the students find jobs after the course, if they wish to join the corporate work force. In case they wish to set up their own business, they would be helped with formulating a business plan and locating strategic investors. Soil has tied up with a Chennai based organisation Avtar Career Creators to find the women flexi-time options.

Instead of CAT/GMAT and other scores, Soil relies on a one on one discussion with the students for admission to gauge their potential and value systems, said Mr Viswanathan.

The course costs Rs 6.5 lakh and the college has tied up with Punjab National Bank and other nationalised banks to provide for loans.
